About RiPPLE

RiPPLE is a five-year research programme consortium funded by the UK 's Department for International Development (DFID). It aims to advance evidence-based learning on water supply and sanitation (WSS) focusing specifically on issues of planning, financing, delivery and sustainability and the links between sector improvements and pro-poor economic growth.

RiPPLE focuses on the cycle of money into water (how can better water and sanitation services be planned, financed and delivered) and water into money (how can improved water and sanitation services contribute to poverty reduction and pro-poor growth). The three core research themes - governance and planning, financing and growth - are cross-cut by work on mapping, communications and capacity building. These cross-cutting areas will support research and learning around the three themes, and have a strong focus on capacity building at all levels.

Working in three regions of Ethiopia, RiPPLE will develop a new body of high quality policy- and practice-relevant knowledge through the establishment of Learning and Practice Alliances (LPAs) at different levels. The LPAs guide research direction according to local priorities, test and evaluate new approaches, and share experiences within and between districts and regions. In parallel, RiPPLE is building outward linkages to networks and partnerships within other Nile region countries.
